2011 ASCA Conference - Conference Chair Letter

Dear Members and Friends of the Association:

I hope that this letter finds you doing well, both personally and professionally. Please accept this writing as the official welcome to the 2011 Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA) Annual Conference. The host site for the conference will be the stunning TradeWinds Island Grand with the conference dates of Wednesday, February 2, 2011 through Sunday, February 6, 2011. As the Conference Chair, and on behalf of the Conference Committee, please accept this invitation to join us in St. Pete Beach, FL for yet another outstanding educational experience.

The conference theme, Where Practice Meets Promise: An Inclusive Approach to Learning,” was created and selected for very specific reasons. The theme represents an appreciation of the contributions from all who have provided our association, and field, with the necessary tools to grow to its current strength while also understanding that both the association and field will continue to evolve through time. Additionally, “promise” is used as a reminder of the students we serve and how their experiences will inform future educational practice and our changing world. Finally, with respect to the diversity we hope to encourage at all times, the upcoming conference is meant to be as inclusive as possible in respect to all offerings, experiences, and the sharing of ideas to take place during the conference week.

Through a carefully constructed assortment of pre-conference sessions, concurrent sessions, keynote and featured speakers, the conference committee believes that there is something for everyone who chooses to attend and become engaged with the offerings. The areas to be covered during the conference include, but are not limited to, academic misconduct prevention and response, using a socially just lens in approaching our work, presenting a myriad of conflict resolution options that can be used on a variety of campuses, and observing changes in legislation and case law findings. Moreover, the conference will also be a place to see familiar faces, build new relationships, mentor and be mentored, while being immersed in both direct and indirect learning experiences.

Finally, your presence at the 2011 ASCA Annual Conference has the ability to impact the learning of others in a major way.  Just as we recognize that student learning is maximized through engagement, we anticipate that your own professional development will be dramatically improved through your presence and participation in the 2011 Conference experience. Likewise, one of the best ways to ensure the strength of our association and conference is through the act of attendance. On behalf of the entire 2011 Conference Committee, see you in St. Pete!

Best regards,

Ryan C. Holmes
