2012 Conference Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are at the core of ASCA!
Please read the various volunteer descriptions that follow and specify your preference online when you sign up. You will also have the ability to upload your volunteer schedule to your overall conference schedule once you receive confirmation of your volunteer opportunity.
On-site volunteer training will be held on Wednesday of the conference.
Please make every effort to attend this training:
Wednesday, February 1, 5:00-5:30 pm
Location: Spotted Curlew
All volunteers will need to check in at Volunteer Check-in located in the lobby of the Trade Winds Hotel. Plan to arrive approximately 15 minutes prior to your actual volunteer time for updates.
Conference Registration
Volunteers will serve in the conference registration area with check-in, materials distribution, and general registration needs.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Disability Assistance
Mobility Assistance Volunteers are needed every day during the conference, and will be assigned according to participant needs. Mobility assistants will escort participants to various conference functions & events. Other duties may include:
-Guiding conference attendees to wheelchair ramps, elevators, and other accessible facilities.
-Attending to the physical safety of attendees in case of emergency.
-Connecting attendees with sign language interpreters if necessary.
-Gathering handouts and other materials if necessary.
-Reporting any problems with accessibility to conference committee members immediately.
Greeters/Guides (To Registration)
Greeters/Guides will be strategically stationed throughout the hotels to help direct conference attendees to registration.
Pre-Conference Workshop Volunteers will be assigned to a room during a Pre-Conference Workshop time block. You must be registered to attend a Pre-conference session in order to volunteer in this area.
Pre-Conference Volunteer duties are as follows:
-Arrive 30 minutes before the start of each session and stay throughout the program.
-Stand at the door with a pre-registration list and check in participants.
-Check that the presenter is there and check-in with them to make sure they have all that they need.
-Introduce the presenter(s) and then will remain at the door to check in additional participants.
-Collect evaluations at the end of the session.
Program Session Volunteers will be assigned to a room during a Program Session time block. Program Session Volunteer duties are as follows:
Arrive 15 minutes before the start of each session.
-Check that the presenter is there and check-in with them to make sure they have all that they need.
-Introduce the presenters prior to the beginning of the session.
-Collect evaluations at the end of the session.
Foundation Volunteer Options
Volunteer to assist the Foundation at the Annual Conference: Opportunities can include assisting with the Silent Auction, volunteering at the first Fun Run/Walk, or other activities. A representative of the Foundation and you'll be contacted about specific opportunities.
Special Events
ASCA will need other volunteers to perform special projects throughout the conference such as staffing one of our entertainment events. Feel free to select multiple activities.
Volleyball: Serve as line judges for Thursday afternoon and Saturday afternoon.
Sand castle building contest: Assist Tradewinds staff in setting up event.
Kinect/Wii: Assist Tradewinds staff with set up and tear down as well as managing the event itself.
Volunteers are needed to staff the Volunteer Headquarters tables located in the Convention Center.
Duties include:
-Check-in volunteers and give them instructions for their locations.
-Reassign volunteers if need be.
-Troubleshoot and assist with all volunteer needs (ex. may need to assist with finding locations).
