On February 26, 2015, Senator Claire McCaskill, Senator Kirsten Gillebrand, Senator Richard Blumenthual and a bipartisan group of the United State Senate proposed federal legislation to address campus sexual assault. The re-introduced Campus Accountability and Safety Act addresses several areas: Uniform conduct process, Clery reporting requirements, climate surveys, memoranda of understanding with law enforcement, responsible employees, the creation of confidential advisors and more.
ASCA continues to work to bring you the most current information regarding external influences on the student conduct profession. We invite our members to participate in a free webinar provided by the ASCA Public Policy & Legislative Issues Committee where we will provide a summary of the bills and discuss potential impacts on student conduct policies and procedures. As the bills will likely change during the course of the legislative process, we will also discuss the ways that ASCA as an association will continue to advocate for best practices in student conduct as well as how members can provide feedback to engage in the legislative process.
