Today's community colleges employ a number of individuals who may be considered "counselors" yet serve in a variety of capacities.  Even the terms "counselor" and "counseling" have taken on many meanings add to that the mandated or encouraged reporting to Behavioral Intervention Teams, Threat Assessment Teams and Student Conduct Offices and the potential for an ethical, moral and legal mess increase for those who serve students (and sometimes faculty and staff) in grey areas regarding confidentiality, privilege and privacy.  This webinar is designed to help those professionals answer the questions that arise when FERPA, HIPPA, licensure requirements and potential personal, professional, and institutional liability seem to be in conflict.

Clery Only: The Changing Landscape of Privacy and Disclosure Laws Part 2

The new federal requirements related to privacy, documentation, reporting and mandatory disclosure are extensive and significant.  This two part webinar will provide a review of the important components of FERPA and Clery and present the substantial number of changes to these laws that were put into effect as a result of the passage of the Higher Education Amendments Act.  In addition to these laws, there are important regulations related to our use of and safeguards related to information technology.  This program will discuss these changes and provide recommendations for compliance.

Creatively Presenting Student Conduct at New Student Orientation

Let’s face it, Campus Codes of Conduct are not making any best-seller lists and more importantly incoming college students are not carefully reviewing them prior to enrollment.  Regardless, as institutions we hold students responsible for being aware of our rules, understanding how we apply definitions, and being able to navigate our processes.  Orientation becomes our first opportunity to develop a rapport with students and help them recognize our standards and expectations.  This presentation will provide evidence of an effective format that puts theory into practice.

The goal of this presentation is to share an overview of a presentation given focusing on Student Conduct to incoming students at an orientation program.  Todd Kamenash will share how the presentation developed and matured over time, the full presentation itself as an example, and how it can be flexible and feasible for an assortment of audiences, time constraints, and other Orientation variables.
