Event Description

Outcome assessment of programs has become a challenge we face on every campus. What are the best techniques? What techniques will provide us with the information we need? How do we capture the data we need? How do we measure the outcomes?
 
This two part series of webinars will provide participants an overview of assessment in higher education administrative units with specific emphasis on assessment of student conduct offices/systems and services.
 
Divided into two parts, Session 1 of the webinar will focus on the outcomes assessment process, assessment language, and major considerations before undertaking an assessment of a student conduct office/system. By the conclusion of Session 1, participants will be able to:
  • Identify the steps in the outcomes assessment process
  • Identify and define key terms associated with the outcomes assessment process
 
Session 2 of the webinar will focus on the development of outcomes specific to each participant's respective student conduct office/system.  Session 2 will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm EST.

Registration Options:
You have the option to register for both Session 1 and Session 2 with one registration.  If you select to register for both sessions on one site, you do not need to register for the other session.  The ASCA Central Office will handle the registration for you.

Technical Requirements:
You will need a telephone for the webinar. Web conferencing requires a 56 Kbps modem and a recent version of a Java-enabled browser. On a PC, you will need Windows XP or later and at least 256MB of RAM.

Biography

Dr. Matthew Stimpson is Director of Enrollment Research and Modeling at Performa Higher Education, an interdisciplinary team of educational consultants working with private higher education clients to improve the entire educational experience. He received his B.A. degree (1999) in Political Science and M.Ed. degree (2002) in Higher Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Ph.D. degree (2009) in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech.

Dr. Stimpson has experience working in a variety of student affairs areas, including student conduct and residence life. His research interests focus on outcomes assessment, and Dr. Stimpson has presented and published on the topics of access, assessment, and retention.  In addition, he cofounded the NASCAP Project, a national assessment project aimed at assessing the learning outcomes of student conduct systems.

Dr. Stimpson is a former Co-Editor of the Student Affairs Law and Policy Weekly, produced by the Council on Law in Higher Education. Currently, he is the Chair of the Publications Committee for the Association for Student Conduct Administration and in that capacity serves as Editor of the Journal of Student Conduct Administration. He is the 2008 recipient of the American College Personnel Association Commission for Student Conduct and Legal Issues Outstanding Research in Student Conduct and Legal Issues award.
