Webinar | Speaker Panel of Speakers from The University of Texas at Austin |
Event Description
Even with enhanced awareness, training, risk management programs, governance, and increased statutory and regulatory oversight, including criminal ramifications, incidents involving hazing still abounds at institutions of higher education. The simple little things, such as errands, costumes, or just a little embarrassment, seem harmless enough, but add a little booze and some shame or humiliation and "Rites of Passage" can quickly evolve into a dangerous and even deadly concoction.
Willing participants, not wanting to be cheated out of the experience, happily submit to untold mental and/or physical abuse. Individuals, groups, and the institution may face criminal, financial, and reputational consequences for the behavior. For many, these consequences may not act as real punishment or even deterrents.
Attendees of the webinar will take away ideas and strategies as a panel from the University of Texas
- Provide a short review of relevant case law and statutes with an eye toward discovering any trends in the law regarding hazing and related liability.
- Discuss mitigating efforts through risk management programs
- Agreements with student organizations
- Distinctions between student organizations that are housed on campus and those that are off campus
- Reporting and investigations
- Recent cases and outcomes
- Reputational damage to the institution
- How social media has added another dynamic to hazing
Join us for this 90 minute webinar as we discuss these topics and more. You will be able to ask our panel your questions and hear from others....
