Webinar | Speaker W. Scott Lewis and Brian Van Brunt |
Event Description
The behavioral and mental health needs of our students are changing. This webinar will discuss counseling trends and offer conduct officers some valuable background information in terms of students they may encounter. We will discuss the importance of being clear between "walking a student over for help" versus "referral to obtain a risk assessment". You will improve your ability to identify types of student behavior appropriate for referral for mandated counseling assessment, including suicidal actions, severe eating disorders, threats to others, inability to care for self (schizophrenia), extreme risk taking, aggression management, extreme alcohol dependence and domestic violence. We will discuss the importance of judicial affairs and counseling working together to improve service delivery to students.
Through the webinar you will
- Gain a better understanding of current trends in mental health on campus
- Develop ways to improve referrals between judicial affairs staff and counseling staff
- Understand how HIPPA and FERPA apply to information sharing between departments
- Understand how the release of information documents can be used to help improve communications
- Among other topics......
We hope your institution will be able to join us. This webinar will apply to both 4 year institutions as well as Community Colleges.
