Event Description

ASCA Circuit I Drive In is an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest trends and issues in the field of Student Conduct.  This year ASCA is hosting a NASPA forum on Victim Advocacy.  This will be a two part session feature experts on the topic.

Speaker Dr. David Braverman

Position: Vice President of Student Affairs/Dean of Students
Company: Springfield College

Biography

David Braverman is the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Springfield College (MA). As the senior campus officer for student life and learning outside the classroom, he serves on the president’s executive staff and oversees student life, including student activities, support services, and residential life. He is also responsible for student conduct, as well as student health, counseling, campus ministries, drug and alcohol education, campus recreation, multicultural center, volunteer services, new student orientation, and career services. He also chaired the steering committee for the construction of the new campus union which is also in student affairs.

Prior to his appointment at Springfield College, David served as the Dean of Students at Texas A&M University-Kingsville; Associate Vice President for Student Affairs at California State University, Sacramento; Dean of Students at Culver-Stockton College; Assistant Dean for Richmond College at The University of Richmond; and Assistant Director of Residence Life at Cornell College.  He has also worked in Sports Networking and as a Fraternity Executive.   

Professional involvement is important to Dr. Braverman, who over the years has been an active member, office holder, and frequent conference and institute presenter and faculty member with NASPA, ACPA, the Massachusetts CPA, NASPA Region 1, Texas Association of College and University Student Personnel Administrators, the Missouri College Personnel Association, the California Student Personnel Association, the Virginia Association of Student Personnel Administrators/Virginia Association of College and Housing Officers, and many other associations. Dr. Braverman was president of the Missouri College Personnel Association in recognition of his service as President and is an ACPA Diamond Honoree.  He is currently serving on the Governing Board of ACPA as Director for External Relations.

Dr. Braverman received his Ph.D. and MA degrees from The University of Iowa in Student Development in Postsecondary Education, Higher Education Administration, and Counseling. His BA is in Biological Sciences from the University of Missouri. His teaching and research interests center around leadership development, gender issues, integrity, and student development.

David is married to Dr. Mindy Chang and they have a young son, Elliott Giun-Shian Chaim Chang Braverman.  He is a heavy metal musician (tuba and trombone), enjoys reading, travel, athletics, and comparative BBQ.
