Mentor Program

Background and Purpose
This program is targeted toward aiding the professionals transitioning new professionals (both traditional and/or those transitioning) and graduate assistants immersion into the field of student conduct administration and/or conflict resolution.  This program is designed to take advantage of the seasoned professionals within the Association and to provide invaluable professional development opportunities for our newcomers.  In its design, this program also seeks to address a division that appears to be forming between our seasoned and new professionals; and, to ensure the preservation of knowledge and experience for the profession.  Branding the program as an Association, allows us to be more open in serving our membership and talent cultivation.

Function
The Mentor Program will be under the purview of the Membership Committee in partnership with the ASCA Central Office Educational Development Coordinator (EDC).  The program will function on yearly cycle from Annual Conference to Annual Conference. The program will be advertised to the membership via email and online by the Central Office and at the Annual Conference.  Interested participants will be asked to complete and submit an Program Information Sheet to the Central Office.

The EDC will then work with the identified program coordinator to pair mentees with interested mentors based upon their preferences as identified on the Information Sheet.

It is the intention of this program that these mentor & mentee pairings develop a natural relationship and continue connections and meetings as the pair sees fit.  We also see this as a great professional development opportunity to connect with student conduct administration and conflict resolution professionals within our Association.  Mentors should assist mentees by connecting them to the field and providing resources from which the mentee can benefit (i.e., resume/cover letter, articles, and updates in law & policy).  Mentees can utilize their mentor to ask questions about the field, getting involved in ASCA, academic & career advancement, etc.

If you are interested in participating in the Mentor/Mentee program please notify Becky McNair at 979.845.5262 or beckym@asca.tamu.edu.
