Regional Chair & State Coordinator Expectations
Regional Chairs
Regional chairs shall be appointed by the President. Each chair shall serve for a period of one (1) year, subject to reappointment. No Chair shall serve for more than three (3) consecutive terms unless no other member is qualified and/or accepts the position. The following are expectations of Regional Chairs:
• To serve the Association within the spirit of the mission, vision, and core values of the organization.
• To report to the Director of Membership any issues needing the attention of the Board of Directors on behalf of the region on a quarterly basis.
• To hold monthly conference calls with designated state coordinators to communicate information on behalf of the Board, receive updates from the states and facilitate idea exchange.
• To assist in connecting state coordinators with the appropriate membership director and Central Office to ensure dissemination of information and resource acquisition.
• To serve in the capacity of the state coordinator position in the absence of one with respect to communication and updates to the membership.
• To identify potential members for leadership within each state, keeping in mind the diverse representation of the region.
• To foster a spirit of collaboration amongst state coordinators in the region ensuring intentionality and effective use of resources in the provision of programs and services.
• To monitor and communicate regional trends, or emerging themes, to the Board and Central Office for consideration in developing programs and services.
• To maintain regular communication updates with the regional members in partnership with designated state coordinator which are communicated utilizing the appropriate mediums.
• To attend and participate in the leadership training held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting and ongoing supplemental position-specific trainings; and to assist in leadership training for the state coordinators.
Regions will be divided as follows:
• East (ME, NH, VT, NY, MA, CT, RI, NJ, DE, DC, MD, PA, WV)
• Midwest (IA, IL, IN, KS, MN, MO, NE, ND, OH, SD, WI, MI)
• South (AL, AR, FL, GA, KY, LA, MS, NC, OK, PR, SC, TN, TX, VA)
• West (CA, AK, AZ, CO, HI, ID, MT, NV, NM, OR, UT, WA, WY)
State Coordinators
For 2012-2013, State Coordinators will be appointed by the President-Elect. Beginning in 2013, the State Coordinators shall be appointed by the Regional Chair. Each State Coordinator shall serve for a period of one (1) year, subject to reappointment. No Coordinator shall serve for more than three (3) consecutive terms unless no other member is qualified and/or accepts the position. State Coordinator shall report to their prospective Regional Chair. The following are expectations of State Coordinator:
• To serve the Association within the spirit of the mission, vision, and core values of the organization.
• To report to the Regional Chair any issues needing the attention of the Board of Directors on behalf of the state on a monthly basis.
• To maintain monthly communication updates with state members which are communicated utilizing the appropriate mediums.
• To facilitate peer learning and resource sharing within state, encouraging active member participation.
• To create a state leadership infrastructure to allow for the support of the educational development and is diverse in composition.
• To host at least one state meeting annually for all members within the state, and open to non-members during the Annual Conference cycle.
• To coordinate with the Conference Committee in facilitating an event at the Annual Conference to provide the opportunity for state-wide networking.
• To work cooperatively with the Educational Development Coordinator in providing professional development opportunity.
• To work with the Regional Chair on a needs assessment for the state in providing programmatic and other services.
• To work cooperatively with the Treasurer and Central Office in ensuring all financial policies/procedures are followed.
• To monitor and communicate any relevant state legislation which would be pertinent to student conduct administration.
• To make outreach to appropriate student affairs professionals at non-member higher education institutions in the state, including underrepresented and community college specifically.
• To make outreach to the members within the state for introduction; and then, as new members join, to welcome them to the state.
• To coordinate state presence on the website, Facebook®, and newsletter to ensure uniform messages are presented. This should be done in collaboration with the Central Office.
• To attend and participate in the leadership training held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting and ongoing supplemental position-specific trainings.
