50 years after Stonewall the fight for equality for members of the LGBTQ+ community are still a challenge in the courtroom and on our college campuses. This presentation will take a look at the history of LGBTQ+ bodies and its impact on current trends for students on our campus.

Dr. Kyle R. Williams (he/him/his), currently serves as the Assistant Director for the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards at Washington University in St. Louis and as adjunct faculty for the College Student Personnel Administration (CSPA) program at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. A native of Cincinnati, OH, Dr. Williams received a Bachelor of Arts in Music at Otterbein University (formally Otterbein College), a Masters of Science in Educational Leadership from Old Dominion University, and a Doctorate in Higher Education from Texas A & M University- Commerce (TAMUC). 

Dr. Williams has worked to develop inclusive practices in student housing, fraternity and sorority life, enrollment management and student conduct. Dr. Williams is a firm believer that students should be seen and valued and that it is our duty as practitioners to meet each student where they are. 

This is evident through his volunteer work and presentations within national and regional associations. Dr. Williams a past Chair for the PAN African Network (PAN) within the Coalition for Multicultural Affairs (CMA) for the Association for College Personnel Association (ACPA), Chair for the Equity and Inclusion Committee for the Association for Student Conduct Administrators (ASCA) and past Faculty Member for the Donald A. Gehring Institute. Dr. Williams is also an active member within the Southern Association of College Student Affairs (SACSA) where he serves as a mentor and frequent presenter on the creation of spaces for mattering for students within various spaces that exist on campuses. 

Outside of his daily work, Dr. Williams is passionate about continuing to study the experiences of Black males within institutions of higher education, is a fur father to his dog Huck Harrison, named after one of his favorite shows Scandal, and is an active member of Phi Beta Sigma, Fraternity, Inc.
