The primary responsibility of the Associate Director (AD) for Community Life is to meet with students to address alleged violations of the code of conduct for on-campus and off-campus students. The AD must have a clear understanding of student development theory and practice, policies and procedures relating to student conduct processes, as well as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ( FERPA). The AD is personally responsible for providing direction to two to four Resident Directors pertaining to the discipline of students on the residence halls. It is the duty of each AD to keep the Senior Associate Director(s) abreast of any discipline, personal, physical, spiritual or emotional problems involving the student population. Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion, an AD is directly responsible to and assists the Associate Dean of Students and/or the Senior Associate Director(s) in whatever areas deemed necessary. Because it is the Student Affairs personnel’s responsibility to provide direction and support for any crisis-oriented situation that may arise, a Student Affairs representative is on call twenty-four hours a day, as assigned on a rotation basis. While on-call, Student Affairs personnel cannot leave the greater Lynchburg area. The on-call schedule is published at the beginning of each semester. Student Affairs personnel are also responsible for updating electronic files and keeping complete and accurate records of student situations. |

Requirements |
Minimum:
A completed Master’s degree with a concentration in higher education, student development, counseling, pastoral studies, biblical studies or a related field is required. Well developed written and verbal communication skills is required
Preferred:
Mid-level management experience and/or student development related experience in a management capacity is preferred. Strong working knowledge of institutional assessment and educational trends as they relate to higher education is preferred.
