Oglethorpe University seeks a?dynamic and influential leader to serve as the Assistant Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities.?Reporting within the Dean of Students portfolio, the Assistant Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities will support the mission of the institution through implementing and administering the student conduct policies and procedures outlined within the University Bulletin. Through their leadership, they will assist students in making positive civic, ethical, individual and community decisions to assist in fulfilling the institutions motto?“Make?a Life.?Make?a Living. Make?a Difference.” 

The successful candidate should have an understanding of the Association of Student Conduct Administration (ASCA) and how to apply best practices from the Association into navigating the ever-changing legal landscape within higher education.  



Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Masters degree in education from an accredited institution 

  • Effective oral and written communication skills 

  • Knowledge of student conduct process  

  • Knowledge of acceptable advising techniques for a diverse student body 

  • Understanding of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion 

  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite 

  • Experience in supervision of student workers 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in education, counseling, or similar field preferred with at least two (2) years of progressive years of experience 

  • Experience in working with student organization conduct systems 

  • Extensive knowledge in working with student conduct systems. With a preference for Maxient 

  • Understanding of restorative justice and alternative dispute resolution practices 

  • Affiliation with the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA) and attendance of the Dr. Donald D. Gehring Academy Mary Beth Mackin Foundations Track 

  • Experience with program development and execution  

  • Interest in student development and learning in a small residential liberal arts setting 

  • Understanding of residence life environments 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Previous customer service experience  

  • Excellent organization and administrative skills  

  • Experience with staff supervision, development, and training

Essential Job Responsibilities and Duties 

  • Assist with the daily implementation of the University conduct policies within the University Bulletin 

  • Assist in the review and investigation of all alleged student misconduct 

  • Collaborate with campus partners regarding allegations of student and academic misconduct 

  • Oversee the recruitment process for a new student conduct ambassador program 

  • Assist Dean of Students in the recruitment, selection, training and coordination of the Student Conduct Board and Faculty/Staff Judicial Board. Including but not limited to, preparing correspondence and scripts, scheduling and oversight of hearing process, communication with participants 

  • Assist in the Development of University policies regarding student organizations and Greek Life 

  • Serve on the Student Support Team that is focused on early alert and intervention.   

  • Recruit, select, train and coordinate the Student Conduct Board 

  • Assist in the coordination of student concerns and complaints 

  • Assist Dean of Students in the annual University Bulletin review process 

  • Development of educational programming surrounding the student conduct process, alternative dispute programming and alternatives to substance abuse and healthy decision making 

  • Organize assessment and data for the division of campus life and coordinate the bi-annual student survey in conjunction with institutional research.  

  • Assist in the development of the training for Residence Life staff regarding conduct processes  

  • Assist in the oversight of Maxient Conduct System. Including creation of annual training process for users, reviewing of reports and flow for reports
