The primary responsibility of the Associate Director (AD) of Community Life is to meet with students to address alleged violations of the code of conduct for on-campus and off-campus students. The AD must have a clear understanding of student development theory and practice, policies and procedures relating to student conduct processes, as well as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The AD is personally responsible for providing direction to two to four Resident Directors pertaining to the discipline of students on the residence halls. It is the duty of each AD to keep the Director(s) in the Office of Community Life (OCL) abreast of any discipline, personal, physical, spiritual, or emotional problems involving the student population. Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion, an AD is directly responsible to and assists the Associate Dean of Students and/or the OCL Director(s) in whatever areas deemed necessary. To ensure an AD is always present in the office during business hours, on-call coverage is assigned on a rotation basis. The on-call schedule is published at the beginning of each semester. Student Affairs personnel are also responsible for updating electronic files and keeping complete and accurate records of student situations.
