Director of Student Advocacy and Accountability

The Director of Student Advocacy & Accountability fosters student success by promoting responsible citizenship and high standards of personal conduct and academic integrity. The director supports the well-being of our students and assists in building a caring campus community. Additionally, the director serves as the university's chief conduct officer and is responsible for assisting students in navigating the accountability process to ensure prompt, impartial, and equitable implementation of the Code of Student Conduct and other University policies. The Director of Student Advocacy and Accountability reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor, Dean of Students.

Requirements Qualifications
Master’s degree is required, with a concentration in student personnel services, social work, or a related discipline with administrative management experience preferred. Knowledge of program development and project management is required. Strong advocacy mindset with experience in innovative program development and university student conduct administration, policy interpretation, data gathering and analysis, or complaint investigations required.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Coordinates education, prevention, and training efforts; manages campus communications regarding campus community standards, including, Hazing, and Alcohol & Other Drugs; oversees development and delivery of culturally responsive educational programs for students, including incoming students, educational materials and conducting outreach and training; leads the development & implementation of the University student surveys pertaining to sexual misconduct and alcohol & other drug use; chairs the Drug & Alcohol Task Force and coordinates the compilation of the University’s Biennial Review;
  • Participates in the University’s CARE and Threat Assessment Teams to support the safety and well-being of the university community; ensures a proactive and collaborative approach to provide interventions for students of concern; manages a caseload of students within Maxient; gathers data from campus, follows up on interventions, and tracks student progress
  • Creates and maintains collaborative partnerships across campus to inform campus of student needs; designs campus-wide supports and educational opportunities for faculty, staff, and students; engages, trains, and supervises students as peer educators with focus on student advocacy;
  • Serves as the university’s conduct officer; develops and implements the university’s student accountability procedures in the Code of Student Conduct for individual students and student organizations, ensuring due process and fairness for all parties; trains and advises the University Hearing Panel; adjudicates conduct allegations; mediates disputes involving students as appropriate; advises students and faculty regarding accountability matters; monitors accountability case timelines and follow-ups;
  • Interfaces with University legal counsel regarding student conduct matters; monitors the Code for compliance with state and federal law; maintains student disciplinary records;
  • Keeps abreast of trends in student conduct issues, as well as state and federal legislation case law impacting student conduct and academic integrity issues;
  • Serves as a member of the Student Handbook review and revision team;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
